A Comedy by Eric Chappell
AUTUMN STUDIO PRODUCTION – “WIFE AFTER DEATH”
October 30th October to 4th November 2023
Directed by Penny Grant
I now have scripts available for “Wife After Death” for anyone who would like to read it prior to auditions that will take place in early July. This gives prior notice to anyone planning their Summer. If you feel you will be away at audition time I can arrange for you to be auditioned at a more convenient time. I will start rehearsals early September and may well start blocking before this, if I have sufficient cast to begin.
The play will be performed in “Thrust”on the Studio Floor against the red curtains (audience on 3 sides).
Characters are as follows~Ages are flexible
- LAURA THURSBY 40s Widow, dressed in “over the top” funeral black. Vain, showy, theatrical
- VI BARRETT Older than Laura with a fuller figure, dressed in simple black. Wry attitude to the events going on around her
- HARVEY BARRETT 50s Untidy, resentful man. Dave Thursby’s script writer
- KEVIN PREWITT Younger than Harvey. Dave’s Agent – overdoes the grieving agent.
- JANE PREWITT Kevin’s wife, thin gawky
- KAY 50s Dave’s first wife.- Glamorous, shapely.
Never mind the title, this is a very funny comedy written by the man who gave us the TV sitcom “Rising Damp”, and many West End comedies.
Comedian and National Treasure Dave Thursby has died, and on the day of his funeral friends and colleagues gather beside his coffin to pay their last respects. Laura has arranged a funeral to remember, complete with horse-drawn hearse and a dog. The unexpected arrival of an unknown guest causes consternation. As the story unfolds, the guests ask themselves if they ever knew the real Dave.
