Introducing Claire Schoonover-Brown and Penny Grant – Our Mousetrap Directors

Who better to direct this famous play than the Players’ professional actress Claire Schoonover-Brown. Born in Singapore, she grew up in a military family, spending much of her childhood in Asia, although the family is originally from near Manchester.

Claire rekindled her life-long love of acting in 2007, and has performed internationally in many productions. Married to an American, Claire relocated from Europe to Washington DC in 2013 and attended the Theater Lab of DC, graduating from the Honors Conservatory in 2014. She is a classically trained actor and graduated from The George Washington University in 2017 with an MFA in Classical Acting.

Publicity shots show a classy lady who could be a lawyer or a mother-in-law, but Claire says you can’t judge a book by its cover: she is outrageously funny, and has had extensive clown and mask training. Don’t mess with her: she is a SAFD Certified Combatant: rapier, dagger, unarmed and single sword.

Penny Grant has been involved with AmDram since a child until now. After moving to Spain 30 years ago with her late husband, Keith, Penny joined the Castle Theatre group in Dénia, until Jávea Players enticed her to join them.

She has acted and in later years done more directing, which she now prefers, but says it’s difficult to select her favourites: The Dresser, Lilies on the Land and The Memory of Water are among them. She’s delighted to be joining Claire for The Mousetrap.

Seven unusual people trapped by a snow storm in a remote guesthouse – the detective has to reach it on skis. They all have hidden secrets in their closets, but which one is actually the murderer?
